Diogo Cabral - headshotCongratulations to Dr Diogo Cabral on his Newton International Fellowship award.

Diogo will be joining ILAS from March 2019.  An environmental historical geographer, he is interested in the relations between native ecosystems – especially forest and savannah – and modern Brazilian society.  While at ILAS he will develop his research project on human-ant negotiated geographies in nineteenth-century Brazil.

Diogo has previously worked at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).  He has an M.A. in Social History and a Ph.D. in Geography (Human Geography) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, with a visiting period at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada.

The Newton International Fellowship Scheme provides the opportunity for the best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years.  The scheme covers the broad range of the natural and social sciences, and the humanities, and is run jointly run by the British Academy, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society.
